            <p class="text-justify">The Department of Economics of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College offers honors course in Economics, Generic Elective courses to students of other departments and also conducts courses for B.A and B.Com Programme.</p>
            <p class="text-justify">Economics Department of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College was set up in 1967 with the establishment of the college. At that time the number of students rarely exceeded 40 with no female students and only 3 faculty members in the department. Over the 54 glorious years, the Economics department of SBSC has grown not only in strength but also in reputation in producing the bright economics graduates well placed both at national and international platforms.</p>
            <p class="text-justify">The strength of faculty members in the department has also increased to 19 comprising committed and dynamic teachers with specializations in various branches of economics. Total number of students in the department has also increased to 200 at present. The department has been able to attract number of students from different parts of India. The students of the economics department have outperformed not only in academics but also in sports and other extracurricular activities. There is a warmth and cordial understanding between the teachers and the students in the department which help in providing the optimum environment of the teaching and learning and help in creating a strong bond between the students and the faculty members.</p>
            <p class="text-justify">The department makes a constant efforts to encourage students not only in academics but also in their overall personality enhancement. The Economic Society now called ‘Ecospire’ has been playing the vital role of developing and showcasing the talents of the students in the sphere of economics while cultivating their interest and applicative ability. The annual economic fest, named ‘Econotise’, gives an opportunity to all the aspiring economists not only from our college but from other colleges to participate in various activities like panel discussions, paper presentation, MUN, extempore, economic quiz etc., to enhance their pioneering ideas through interactions and debate drawing an overwhelming response each year. Economics department also organizes national seminars, lectures, webinars by eminent speakers and experts on contemporary economic issues. Along with it department also organizes workshops, industrial visits and recreational tours which would help in building overall personality and stimulating intellectual leadership. The Department is strongly committed to impart education that produces socially responsible, disciplined and sensitive citizens. More than 50 % of our students have scored first division marks in their bachelor’s degree. Many graduates of our college have opted for higher education from prestigious institutions like Delhi School of Economics, Indian Statistical Institute, Jawaharlal Nehru University, IIMs, ISB and IIFT in India. Many of the students have joined international universities like London School of Economics, University of Scotland and University of Chicago for their masters and research. Our students are well placed in various think tanks in both government and corporate organizations.</p>

            <p class="text-justify">The college grew in size rapidly especially after moving to its present premises. Today we have almost 200 students out of which almost half are women. Faculty strength has grown to 11members in the department. The cutoff percentage for admission has steadily grown over the years and is 96% at present and thereby attracting quality students.The faculty is extremely dedicated and hardworking with maximum interaction between the students and the teachers. The result is that over 30%of students score first division marks in their bachelors degree. Those who opt for master’s degree have gained admission to leading institutions like Delhi School of Economics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Indian Institute of Management,South Asian University, TERIUniversity,and Indian Institute of Foreign Trade etc.Some have opted to study abroadand joined universities in the United Kingdom and United States while others have carried out lucrative careersfor themselvesin various fields.</p>
            <p class="text-justify">Students from reserved categories join at a lower percentage.Many of them have performed very well and have pursued further studies and career. All this has also been possible with excellent library facilities available in the college and the emphasis of the faculty members on continuous and quality interaction with students.</p>-->
